Wine versus Exercise

When you have had a crap day at work followed by an even crapola (not a word I know but it just fits) drive home after a truck had lost its load and two lanes had to be closed off heading north at 5pm on the Mitchell freeway...... yes I am sure you are getting the picture.

All good intentions slowly ebb away, I had planned on going to yoga, then I talked myself into going for a walk instead of the gruelling 90 minutes of heat infused stretching.  Once I got home, I convinced myself that it would be dark soon so I opened a bottle of red and had a lovely curry for tea.

Now I am sitting here watching TV feeling very guilty for so easily caving in but this wine sure is good and there's always tomorrow for exercise!!!!

Farewell to Powderfinger

Farewell Powderfinger!!  We went to the Wednesday night concert and true to form Powdie rocked the place out.  We have spent many a night singing Powderfinger to the tops of our voices and you will be truely missed by all.  Here's a trip down memory lane for all you Powderfinger fans.

Internationalist - I love this album, my favourite song of all time "Capoicity" and who can go by "Good Day Ray" - is that you again Ray, testing out my headspace, such a rocky, pimping song....

Odyssey Number 5 - Great great tracks like "My Happiness", "These Days" and another favourite "Whatever Makes you Happy"

Vulture Street - the great "Sunsets" is on this album and "How Far Have We Really Come"

Dream Days at the Hotel Existence - Couldn't find this album but I have it somewhere.  "Lost and Running" is one of my fav's on this.

Golden Rule - "Burn Your Name" and "Sail the Wildest Stretch" is such a beautiful song.

Sunsets - Farewell Tour - Probably the last Powderfinger album we will get to buy.

I don't think you can easily pick a favourite album or song as Powderfinger are one of those bands that each song you listen to seems to become your favourite.

Gotta love the Finger!!!

All my favourite shows have gone off the TV so whilst wasting away my time, I picked up my pencils and went back to basics.

The Moon - Part 2

More info on the moon, a bit deep but quite fascinating ....

There are 5 moon tides:

Ocean Tides - there are 2 tides everyday, corresponding roughly to when the moon is overhead and when it is on the opposite side of the planet.  As it travels around the earth the oceans move with it.

Earth Tides - The moon has a tide that pulls the crust off the earth towards itself.

Fire Tides - Lunar tides also affect the fiery molten core of the earth, causing it to surge and recede like ocean tides.  They say this is one of the contributors to earthquakes.

Air Tides - Weather is in fact what happens when the atmosphere is pulled around the planet by the moon.  So why is the moon tides not taken into account when weather forecasting?  No wonder the weather forecast is usually wrong.

Blood Tides - The effect of the moons tides on living beings.  The monthly moon-tide - the 28 day menstrual cycle.  The phases of the moon affect the cycle of growing things, the migration of birds, the breeding season of everything from deer to coral.  "Emotional moon-tides" lunacy was a legal defense, seen as an unstable mental condition brought on at full moon.

So there you have it, the moon is a very mysterious magical thing.  Which leads me to thinking if the moon has such an influence over the earth why have the Americans been the only one's to land on the moon?  The technology that we have 40 years later surely would make it easier to have gone backwards and forwards to the moon.  Wouldn't other countries, especially Russia want to see the moon for themselves.  I know there is a theory that there is nothing there and landing on the moon has already been conquered but hasn't more than one person climbed Mt Everest!  Would the Russians even believe the Americans that there was nothing on the moon?

I want to know why has nobody been back to the moon, and in fact if man really landed on the moon at all?

After that brain drain, I am now going to get a cup of tea......

The Moon - Part 1

Have you seen the moon lately?  It is so luminously beautiful, it is not a full moon but only a partial crest but the way is is illuminated you can see the outline of the entire moon.  It has been directly over the ocean and lights up the sea below, it looks quite striking and there is what appears to be a bright star directly in the west, it is in fact Venus shining brightly.

I tried to take a photo last night as it has been drawing me out every evening to take a look at this fabulous moon, the photo doesn't do it justice but it was the best my lens could do

My friend told me today that you need to bow to the moon and turn your wallet over three times to get an abundance of money.  I had never heard this one before, she also told me that to get wealth in your life you needed an expensive red wallet and to keep it orderely.  Well I have to say this has kinda worked my purse is quite often empty but I am never totally poor and just when you are desperate, a hidden $20 is found in one of the many hidden compartments of my expensive wallet, aaah  there is nothing better than finding hidden money.  So maybe there is something in this moon business?

After doing some research, indeed it is considered bad luck to point at the moon.  When a new moon is seen for the first time it should be greeted respectfully with a bow or curtsey in its direction.  Bowing three or nine times, wishing during the process was also done.  It has always been customary to turn over silver in one's pocket upon first seeing the new moon as this means there will be plenty of money during the coming month.

The moon has me intrigued, I shall have to investigate further and report back with new updates.

Whatever comes to light from now on, regardless of what the neighbours will think, I will be bowing at the new moon and rolling my dollars over.

The Blonde and the Milkman

Monday's joke.....

A blonde heard that baths in milk would make her beautiful. She left a note for her milkman to leave 25 gallons of milk. When the milkman read the note, he felt there must be a mistake. He thought she probably meant 2.5 gallons. So he knocked on the door to clarify the point. The blonde came to the door and the milkman said, "I found your note asking me to leave 25 gallons of milk. Did you mean 2.5 gallons?"

The blonde said, "No, I want 25 gallons. I'm going to fill my bathtub up with milk and take a milk bath so I can look young and beautiful again."

The milkman asked, "Do you want it pasteurized?" The blonde said, "No, just up to my tits. I can splash it on my eyes."

The things you can't tell your kids off for

I had a call from one of my son's teachers on Wednesday saying that he had been given an afterschool detention, just one of the many that my son has had to endure.  The teacher then told me what had happened "today during class, your son hit me on the backside with a ruler"  I incredulously said "what?  he hit YOU on the backside with a ruler" he reiterated in fact this was correct.  I instantly swallowed my snigger and said that unfortunately my son sometimes oversteps the mark with teachers that he deems to be "cool".  This teacher did explain that my son's reasoning was "I thought you were cool Mr ...... ".  I agreed that it was not appropriate and I stated that I would talk to my son about his abhorrent behaviour.

4 Oclock came and I heard my son walk through the door and I just burst out laughing and said "don't hit your teacher on the bum with a ruler" he started laughing too and agreed he thought it was a good thing to do at the time but now in hindsight he wouldn't be doing it again.  He thought he would be in trouble, but honestly how can you tell your kid off for that?

We went to the physio the next day as my son had hurt his knee and the physio said jokingly that beloved son would k'need (joke get it?) a week off school, I quickly explained that he sits down all class time and as he has detention most lunch times anyway he would not be in need of time off school.  We told the physio about my son's latest fiasco and he cracked up laughing and said "thats what legends are made of" the kids in the class must have totally lost it.  Upon leaving he stopped my son and asked for his autograph as he was a legend and was going to frame his signature.

So folks the lesson to remember here is "don't hit your teacher on the bum with a ruler!!!!"

Strange Sleeping Habits

The sleeping habits of my Staffies always amuse me.

Miss Abbey (aka Fat Maria)  loves the afternoon sun, and I spotted her sleeping outside the back door

Here's another shot just to prove that she does this all the time!

Angus also lounges around in very creative ways but he prefers not to lay on the floor...

No wonder the plants never grow!

Why is a day off never really a day off?

Well hump day is my day free from work, I don't have to fight the traffic to get to work, I am free to do whatever I like for the day.

Then why is it that I always end up being so much busier on my day off than if I actually went to work?  Why are women so bothered by dust?  men never seem to notice it but personally I cannot relax if the floor is coated with dog and cat hair or if I need to be doing a load of washing or that the dishwasher needs emptying.

Today I dropped my son off at school and went to the gym, feeling fantastic exercise done by 9am, will shower, go food shopping early and be done with my chores by 11, plenty of time for myself remaining in the day.  Instead I came home and got obsessed with the house, dusted, rearranged ornaments, cleaned the kitchen, basically spring cleaned.  Am I mad!!  I actually have a cleaner who does this for me every second week but these things were starting to bug me and my obsessive nature compelled me to clean.  Now I am sitting here blogging and it is 11am, I still haven't showered, i still need to go food shopping and I have set my self way behind the 8 ball !!!

Maybe its not all women, Is it just my aries star sign?  We constantly have this inner need to be busy, to work on 5 things at once, to strive for perfection which is a totally ridiculous notion but it is a curse of the Arians.  Doing yoga is helping me in a way try to live in the moment, enjoy what you are doing at the time, one thing at a time, learn not to sweat the small things, a little dust never hurt anyone.  Its a work in progress, but at least for now I have a lovely clean house and I'm off for that shower and then food shopping awaits......

Mondayitius

My boss is back at work today so I must knuckle down and get some work done, how depressing, typical Monday!

Poor Monday, he always gets a bad rap unlike Friday who everybody is excited about, its the celebratory end of the week drinks day.  No body really cares about Tuesday, its a non event and Wednesday is hump day so its always a good day.  Thursday is the "only one more day to go" and "gee this week's gone quick" so poor Monday....there is nothing really good about any given Monday.

Forgive my ramblings, I will have something much more tantalising to share with you tomorrow!  However, if you really disagree with me about Monday, please let me know what I am missing.

When the Crabs Go Marching In

We were in Exmouth walking along the beach and came across the Exmouth crab marching band, check out these babies, they were pretty cute actually, if they were fully grown I would have been screaming and running back to the dunes but it was good to watch the babies march towards the sea.

Is Bikram Yoga Good for you - Part 2

Well tried my second class of Bikram yoga yesterday, and I have to say it wasn't nearly as bad, sure it is still hot and you sweat incredibly and for some reason as I looked around, I seemed to have the reddest face in the class, why does no one else end up looking like a beetroot?

My poses were held for longer, my balancing was better and I felt more able to concentrate on the yoga as opposed to the heat.

After my 90 minute class, I guzzled my water and realised I felt stronger, taller, energised.  I came home ate a few almonds to appease my grumbling tummy, had a shower, did my food shopping still feeling fantastic.  I made a healthy lunch, sat outside in the sun and read my book, before I knew it I was awoken by the neighbours kids playing out the front, I had taken a mini nana nap totally exhausted but it was only for 15 minutes and I jumped up to continue my day.

Am I converted? maybe, I have even manged to convince others to give it a go..... after reading my first blog on Bikram, are they crazy?

"what lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" - Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Give Bikram a go, you never know you might even like it.
