Sunrise

"Sunrise"
pastel on board
I previously painted this same scene but it was earlier in the morning when the sun hadn't quite risen above the dunes and it had a much cooler feel to that painting.
This painting was just as the sun was beginning to rise above the dunes showing a little hint of pink in the sky and the sun refecting on the tips of the dunes turning them a firey orange in the rise of the new winter morning.

Through the Lens

One of my favourites moments was on a Safari in Africa when we were sitting in our jeep with our guide and this majestic elephant decided to charge us.  Our Ranger quickly started up the car and commenced to reverse very quickly up the track.  The elephant gave up after a short while and trumpted a great sound warning us away.  He was having a grumpy day and didn't want his photo taken, it was altogether exhilarating and frightning at the same time.  We had a big laugh about it afterwards.
I snapped this photograph and it has always been one of my favourites so I had the joy of painting it this weekend.  I love how it has turned out, a very special memory indeed.
